The monument to St. Catherine of Siena in Rome

The monument to St. Catherine of Siena (Statua di Santa Caterina) is located in Rome, not far from the Castel Sant'Angelo.

The monument is dedicated to Saint Catherine of Siena (1347 - 1380). She was a member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic, an activist and writer who had a great influence on Italian literature and the Catholic Church. Catherine of Siena was canonized in 1461.

The construction of the monument began in 1961. A year later, the statue was unveiled. 

Francesco Messina is the author of this sculpture.

Monument is made of white marble. In the center of the memorial is the sculpture of St. Catherine. Nearby are four bas-reliefs with scenes from her life.
