Amber Museum in Kaliningrad

The Kaliningrad Regional Amber Museum was opened in 1979. The museum is located in the fortress tower of Friedrich Karl Don, which was built in 1853 and included in the inner ring of the Koenigsberg fortifications.

The decision to open the Amber Museum in Kaliningrad was made because more than 90% of the world's amber reserves are mined nearby - in the village of Amber (поселок Янтарный, poselok Jantarniy).

The museum exposition occupies three floors of the building (in 28 rooms) with a total area of about 1000 square meters. There you can see jewelry, sculpture and interior objects from amber.  A significant part of the permanent exhibition of the museum is the work of contemporary artists (from Russia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the USA, France, Japan). The museum's collection has about 16,000 exhibits.
