Vardan Mamikonyan Monument, Yerevan

The monument to Vardan Mamikonyan in Yerevan is located on the Ring Boulevard (near the intersection of the boulevard with Vardanants Street).

Vardan Mamikonyan is a famous Armenian military leader, commander-in-chief of the Armenian army during the Battle of Avaray (one of the largest battles in the history of Armenia, which took place in 451).  Vardan Mamikonyan died in  this battle. Later he was canonized.

The monument was opened in 1975.

  • Architect: Stepan Kyurkchyan

The sculpture is made of copper, while the pedestal is made of sandstone.

Vardan Mamikonyan is depicted riding a horse with a large sword in his right hand.
