The Sant Joan funicular allows you to climb to a height of 1000 meters above sea level and admire the amazing views of the monastery of Montserrat and the surrounding area.
The funicular was built in 1918. The funicular accommodates 48 people at a time and moves with a speed of 5.4 km / h.
Several walking routes starts in different directions from the top of the mountain. Even if there is no desire to go through any of the routes, you can wander around the area and admire the fascinating views around.
Upstairs after leaving the funicular building, you can go up on the second floor, where is an observation deck and a small exhibition - Aula de Natura (Nature center), dedicated to the history, climate, flora and fauna of the mountain.
How to get to the funicular
The funicular is located just above the station of the Cremallera railway - Cremallera de Montserrat. When exiting the station, you will need to turn left, walk past the tourist information center and then turn left again onto the stairs. Then go upstairs and you are already at the funicular.

In low season, the funicular runs with intervals of 20 minutes, on other days the interval is reduced to 12 minutes.
